Fahr's syndrome: bilateral basal ganglia calcifications presenting as psychosis with manic characteristics

Dashtseren Y, Dashtseren P. Fahr's syndrome: bilateral basal ganglia calcifications presenting as psychosis with manic characteristics. Case Study and Case Report 2023; 13(2): 12 - 16. ABSTRACT Fahr's syndrome is a rare neurodegenerative condition characterized by symmetric bilateral basal ganglia calcifications. While the majority of cases are genetic with autosomal dominant inheritance, a small minority are sporadic with no metabolic or other underlying factors found. Fahr's syndrome manifests neurological and psychological symptoms such as movement abnormalities, seizures, psychosis, and depression. Almost 40% of people with basal ganglia calcification have mental symptoms such as mania, apathy, or psychosis. We discuss the case of a 52-year-old woman with no prior medical or psychiatric history who arrived with altered mental status that developed to psychosis over the course of three years. On one visit, the patient had increased liver enzymes and a positive antinuclear antibody panel but no electrolyte problems or movement issues. In the emergency department, the patient was diagnosed with nonspecific psychosis, which was later corrected to Fahr's syndrome, which was verified by neuroimaging. This report details her Fahr's syndrome appearance, clinical symptoms, and therapy. Above important, it emphasizes the significance of a thorough workup and adequate follow-up for middle-aged and older patients with cognitive and behavioral abnormalities, as Fahr's syndrome can be difficult to diagnose in the early stages. Atypical manifestations of primary pulmonary adenocarcinoma with signet ring features: A case report.

Demir T, Zoreb P. Atypical manifestations of primary pulmonary adenocarcinoma with signet ring features: A case report. Case Study and Case Report 2023; 13(1): 8 - 11. ABSTRACT Primary pulmonary malignancies are among the most frequent cancers in the world. Adenocarcinoma is the most common non-small cell lung cancer, however there are various subtypes with different molecular and genetic expressions that cause different symptoms. Rare manifestations include chronic back pain and tracheal bronchial tumors. Because more than 95% of tracheal bronchial tumors are benign, they are rarely biopsied. There have been a few reports of secondary tracheal bronchial tumors caused by lung adenocarcinoma. We present the first case report of a rare presentation of primary pulmonary cancer. Key words: adenocarcinoma, manifestation, signet ring

Acrodystrophic axonal polyneuropathy in celiac disease: a case report

Kvasnevskyi I, Bradunaite P. Acrodystrophic axonal polyneuropathy in celiac disease: a case report. Case Study and Case Report 2023; 13(1): 3 - 7. ABSTRACT Celiac disease may be a potential cause of neuropathy and encephalopathy in adult patients. Further immunosuppressive treatment protocols for both intestinal and extraintestinal manifestations of celiac disease are required. Despite a fairly wide range of celiac neuropathies, we report a case of the acrodystrophic variant of celiac polyneuropathy. Key words: celiac disease, neuropathy, immune.

Albendazole associated psychosis

Rovoponek P, Rovoponek R. Albendazole associated psychosis Case Study and Case report. 2023; 13: 1 – 3. ABSTRACT The relationship between albendazole monotherapy and psychosis has not been proven in recent research. We discuss a case of acute psychosis linked to albendazole that has been documented. The patient's psychosis subsided after the drug was stopped and aripiprazole was administered, and in the months that followed, he or she did not require acute care. Albendazole's contribution to the aforementioned toxicity is supported by the temporal link and laboratory evidence. Although uncommon, such reactions can have a significant impact on patient care and may necessitate heightened provider caution when prescribing albendazole. Keywords: drug, albendazole, psychosis

Patient experience on illness at home during COVID-19 outbreak

Thomas J, Joob B. Patient experience on illness at home during COVID-19 outbreak . Case Study Case Rep. 2022; 12(4): 42 - 45. ABSTRACT Coronavirus disease 19 or COVID-19 is a new respiratory disease caused by a novel coronavirus, SARS CoV-2. After its first report in China, the disease rapidly to more than 200 countries. COVID-19 is a big pandemic and cause problem worldwide. This new disease can cause accurate febrile respiratory illness and death might be a possible outcome in the severe case. Many million people get suffering from this disease. The containment of COVID-19 requires a strict infection control process. The example of a strict infection control process is the locking down, which is already implemented in several countries around the world. During the outbreak, it is recommended that the people should be at home. Here, the authors share patient experience on illness at home during COVID-19 outbreak as a personal narrative. This is a good example of patient who got obstructed at home during COVID-19 outbreak and call for a consultation for her illness via internet communication media. There is no previous report on patient experience with detailed timeline of suffering at home. The suffering of sick person at home during locking down period might not be well recognized. The lessons learnt from this personal narrative can be used for further development in healthcare support to the people living at home during the COVID-19 outbreak. Post-COVID-19 arthritis: a case study

Sharma S, Shanti R. Post-COVID-19 arthritis: a case study. Case Study and Case Report 2022; 12(4): 38 - 41. ABSTRACT The unique pathogen causing the coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) outbreak is the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2). The pathogenetic pathways of the virally-induced damage are being investigated by researchers and clinicians, and there is rising interest in the immediate and long-term effects of the infection on the immune system. We'll concentrate on the post-SARS-CoV2 infection arthritis that could develop as a brand-new pathological illness linked to COVID-19. In this report, we describe a case of acute oligoarthritis in a middle-aged man that developed 15 days after he developed severe pneumonia caused by the SARS-CoV2. Key words: COVID-19, arthritis, complication

Obturator hernia: a case study

Demir S, Yurab R. Obturator hernia: a case study. Case Study and Case Report 2022; 12(3): 34 - 37. ABSTRACT Less than 1% of abdominal wall hernias are the uncommon obturator hernia. Due to its vague indications and symptoms, it poses a diagnostic problem. We describe a case of an elderly woman who had right medial thigh pain in the past. Right obturator hernia with minor intestinal blockage was discovered by computed tomography scan. There was no need for a minor intestinal resection because the hernia could have been properly corrected laparoscopically. On the second postoperative day, she was released from the hospital after a smooth recovery with no difficulties. This case study emphasizes the significance of prompt obturator hernia diagnosis and repair, even when the clinical picture is improving. It also shows how safe laparoscopic surgery is in this situation. Key words: Obturator, hernia, obstruction
